Frequently Asked Questions
How long have you been a photographer?
I've always had an interest in photography as a child and photographed friends and family's life moments, but I did not start exploring photography further than just a hobby until July of 2023.
In 2024, I pursued photography as a very part-time gig and had the honor of photographing 6 weddings throughout Wisconsin and Illinois, along with many memories for my clients. It's been a wonderful journey so far and I'm so happy to have met many amazing clients!
I consider myself a new and budding photographer, eager and excited to grow and learn more about photography so that I can continuously improve my skills and craft.
Where are you located and do you travel?
I am based in the 815 area in Northern Illinois and can travel to other locations upon the client's request.
I have had the honor of photographing many sessions and weddings in Wisconsin as well and would be more than happy to travel to you!
There is a small travel fee if the location is over 60 miles of Rockford, Illinois. For a direct quote on travel fees for your session or event, please contact me.
What is the booking process for sessions and weddings?
My booking process is simple! Just inquire through my contact form. After that, I will follow up with an email regarding your session or event date and time. I then email you a booking contract to sign along with a payment link for the non-refundable retainer. Once you email back the signed booking contract and submit the non-refundable retainer, then your session or event is officially booked!
Afterwards, we will work together to finalize important details for your session or event.
What is your booking retainer fee?
A 50% non-refundable retainer is due at the time of booking along with a signed booking contract for all session types.
For sessions, the other half is due on the day of the session, by the end of the session time.
For weddings and events, depending on the final amount due, I may split up the payments so that it is not too overwhelming. The split vary and will be noted in the booking contracts. Full payments are eventually due before the wedding or event date as this is the industry standard.
What is your gallery delivery turnaround time?
For sessions with unlimited photos, the turnaround time varies between 3-4 weeks after your session date.
For sessions that have limited photos, the turnaround time will depend on how quickly clients confirm their final selection of photos to be edited. The sooner that the client makes their selection, the sooner I will start the editing process. Once the client completes their selection, the turnaround time varies between 3-4 weeks from the date of which the selection of photos were finalized.
For weddings and events, full galleries are usually delivered within 3-4 months (12-17 weeks). The main reasoning for this timeframe is that photography is my part-time passion and I still balance other full-time commitments. Clients who choose me as their wedding or event photographer are informed of this and accept this timeframe during the booking process.
What is your photography and editing style?
My photography style in terms of posing consists of a mix of traditional "smiling at the camera and looking straight on-ward" poses along with candid and/or movement shots. I believe a mix of both styles provides my clients with a variety of photos to use not just on social media but also as art within their home. I love options, so I try to give my clients plenty of options as well.
For weddings, I take on a documentary approach, where I am a fly on the wall and let things happen naturally. Typically the only moments that I help with directing and posing are during scheduled timeframes for portraits such as bride and groom portraits, family and wedding party group photos, and the cake cutting.
My editing style leans towards true to color with hints of warmth, sometimes moodiness, and a pop of contrast. I focus on lighting adjustments, removing distracting objects or subjects in the background, removing blemishes and flyaway hair strands, and composition through cropping. I do not specialize in fine art editing (fantasy edits, makeup enhancements, environment or sky replacements, editing body types, etc.).
Do you help with posing?
Yes! I do a mix of traditional "smiling at the camera and looking straight on-ward" poses along with candid and/or movement shots. I believe a mix of both styles provides my clients with a variety of photos to use not just on social media but also as art within their home. I love options, so I try to give my clients plenty of options as well.
What if I don't want my photos to be posted on your social media but still want to book with you?
No worries! I will 100% respect my client's wishes. Within my booking contract, there is a section for clients to indicate whether or not they consent their photos that show faces to be shared on my social media. If this is selected, I never post photos that show faces from their session.
Do you offer printing? Where can I print photos from my gallery?
Sorry, at this time I do not offer prints. My recommendation would be to order prints from MPix, Adorama, or Nations Photo Lab online.
I also do not recommend downloading your photos from your gallery onto your phone, then placing your order through your phone. When photos are downloaded to phones, the file size is compressed resulting in much lower quality when printed and expanded onto a large print. Instead, I recommend downloading your photos onto a desktop computer or laptop, then placing your order straight from those devises, not your phone.
Do you provide unedited or RAW files?
I do not provide unedited nor RAW files due to personal preferences being that I am not comfortable with delivering unfinished work and that providing these files would mean others would have the full capability to completely alter my work.
If this is a factor in someone's decision to book with me or not, I may not be the best fit photographer for what they are looking for. There are other talented photographers who may offer this in their photography services or packages as that is their personal preference. I encourage everyone to explore their options so they may find the best photographer that offers the services they are searching for.
Will my delivered photos have a watermark on them?
Nope! All delivered photos within my client's gallery will not have watermarks.
I only want a few photos. Do you offer mini sessions with less delivered photos?
I occasionally offer mini sessions with less delivered photos, a shorter timeframe, and a discounted price during holidays such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and during the beginning of some seasons. Please follow my Facebook and Instagram for announcements!
I also am open to providing custom pricing for mini sessions sometimes. Please feel free to reach out and we can discuss. Thank you!
How long do you keep galleries backed up on your computer?
I keep online gallery links active for 1-2 months after the date of delivery to my clients. Clients are responsible for fully downloading and backing up their galleries on their own within the timeframe outlined in the booking contract.
I always recommend clients to download their photos onto a desktop computer or laptop, then make copies onto a USB or hard drive, as well as making copies to a cloud-based storage option like Google Drive or similar. This will help ensure that you have back ups of your back up gallery.
Do I own the photos after they're delivered? Do you retain copyright?
I as the photographer retain all copyright to all images. Photos cannot be sold, published, nor used for commerical purposes for profit by the client. All photos are for the personal use of clients only, as agreed upon within the booking contract when signed by clients.
If clients would like to use their photos for commercial purposes for profit, I am open to discussing options to come to a mutual agreement, but this request must be communicated before booking a session. Thank you!
